In Thailand, you can sit on a plastic chair and eat the best meal of your life next to a parked motorcycle, and it’d feel totally normal. That's because some of the world's best chefs work out of tiny makeshift kitchens on roadsides and markets all over Thailand.

These street chefs are firing up recipes that have been passed down for generations next to busy Thai streets. It's chaotic, but it's magical. At Chopp Chop Ottawa, they bring some of that magic to the city serving up some truly authentic Thai Street food. Perhaps some of the best Thai food street food we've had in Ottawa period.

As someone who has travelled to Thailand a few times and a big fan of Thai street food, I have to say I was pretty excited to try Ottawa's newest Thai restaurant... even if it was way out in Orleans.

And Chopp Chop nailed it. The staff? Thai. The vibe? Like Thailand, but without the 14-hour flight. They had these metal plates (ifykyk) and milk crate seats in the waiting area—it’s like they transported a little slice of Bangkok right into Orleans. I sat there, and for a second, I forgot I was in Ottawa. I thought a tuk-tuk might roll up at any minute to take me home.

On the menu, they had all the Thai street classics like Papaya salad, curries, shrimp chips, Pad Thai and Pad Kee Mao. But it was the stir fry basil & seafood with a fried egg on rice that brought me back to the land of the smiles. 😊 A dish I haven’t had since visiting Thailand and had pretty much forgotten.

And the Tom Yum Rice Noodle soup… spicy, a bit sweet, full of herbs and flavour. So comforting. So good. The familiar taste of the broth really reminded me of my travels East.

“Chopp Chop” is a Thai saying that means “I love it, I really love it!” And that’s how we felt. It’s no surprise people all over the world love Thai Street food.

Chopp Chop Thai Street Food isn’t just another restaurant in Ottawa. It’s a portal to Thailand, right in the heart of Orleans.

If you’ve been to Thailand, you know street food is all about balance: spicy, sweet, sour, and salty—every bite is an adventure. Chopp Chop Ottawa gets that balance just right.

The food is fresh, the flavors are authentic, and the atmosphere will make you feel like you’ve stepped into a street market on the other side of the world. (but cleaner)

We also had an iced Thai Green tea - a fragrant, milky and sweet drink that is almost like a combination between a milk tea and a floral Jasmine tea. Thai drinks are known to be a bit on the sweeter side, but this drink was very refreshing and very Thai.

If you're searching for an authentic Thai street food experience, Chopp Chop Ottawa is where you need to go. Whether you're craving classic Thai flavors or just looking for a unique restaurant in Ottawa, this is it.

So, if you’re tired of the same old restaurant scene and you want to taste the best Thai street food Ottawa has to offer, head over to Chopp Chop. Trust me, you’ll love it. I really love it.

Enjoy Ottawa.
